Supernatural (4x04 - “Metamorphosis”)

…aka the episode that Joanne guest stared in as Michelle Montgomery.

(If you don’t want to be spoiled on this episode, STOP. Do not read any further. You have been warned.)

I knew there was a reason I didn’t watch Supernatural. This shit is weird! And just plain freaky. Now, some people love weird and freaky. Good for them. Go for it! I, however, do not. Warehouse 13 is about as “weird and freaky” as I get. I don’t care for “scary” movies that are scary just to be scary (if it has a decent plot and actually makes sense, I can see it’s merit). And I don’t really do excessive gore. A little is fine. But a dude literally EATING A HUMAN MAN’S THROAT?! *shudders* No, thanks.

Anyway, I watched this episode last night (yeah, NIGHT… just before I went to bed… I’ll admit, not my best idea…). Of course, I watched this episode solely for Joanne Kelly, who played the wife of a demonized character who suddenly started craving human flesh.

I had a like/hate relationship with this episode. (I say LIKE/hate because I know I didn’t love it…) Hate because it was way too gored up—was all that blood really necessary?—and not really all that interesting outside Joanne’s character’s story line. Perhaps a regular viewer who knows these characters and knows their back story found it interesting. I did not. I liked the episode because, duh, Joanne was in it. And she was magnificent, of course. Her last scene where she was tied to the chair and super emotional… God damn it, someone give this woman a freaking Emmy already! I also did like how the demonized character (his name escapes me) actually ended up saving Michelle’s life in a weird, twisted way. After he ripped the dude’s throat out and “changed,” he set his wife free when he could easily have killed her as well. But he didn’t. That kind of humanized him a bit, which I liked.

Something that bugged me—though I have no idea why it bugged me—is that the end of the story line was kind of left hanging. I mean, what happened to Michelle after she drove off? Etc. I know, I only care because I’m a Joanne fan. I wouldn’t care if it wasn’t Joanne. Like on WH13, I usually don’t give this kind of thing a second thought. *shrugs* Oh, well.

Off to find more things Joanne has appeared in. :)
